So I've been in need of a mechanic/auto shop ever since my regularly-seen mechanic of umpteenth years decided to semi-retire. I've been thinking of giving My Auto Surgeon a shot ever since my sister and brother-in-law seemed pretty content and satisfied with services received at the Rocklin location. I work close to their Roseville location and just so happened to need assistance with my recently-purchased vehicle so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try them out. My overall opinion: Location - conveniently located right off Atlantic Street so easy on/off freeway access. However, their actual storefront is located on a lot that is extremely small with very little parking. On the day I took my car in, it looked like most of the cars that were already parked in all the slots were either a) waiting to be serviced, or b) already serviced and waiting for pickup. As soon as I pulled into the driveway I realized there was no parking so I maneuvered my way left towards the front of the building (looking from their driveway, their office/waiting area is on the left side of the building, while the bays are to the right). Either way, when I realized their parking lot ended pretty much right there, I had to turn myself back around. Luckily, good timing had a gentleman walking out from the office with paperwork in his hand so I prayed "please be leaving, please be leaving," and I got lucky with a parking spot. Communication - I originally emailed the business to let them know what the issue was and find out what my next steps should be (there was a rattling sound coming from under my car, and at one point I was told at another shop when I took it in for an oil change that there were some missing screws from the jiggamabob (some plate or shield or something on the underside of the car) and that could potentially be the cause of the rattling). The email reply I received was prompt and courteous (turns out to be the owner). I liked how he provided me with a couple of options with brief explanations as to what each option entailed but then left it up to me to decide how to proceed (I hate nothing more than when people try to push only one solution instead of explaining what something is, how it could potentially effect the outcome, providing options in case one doesn't pan out, etc.). Office and staff: lobby area was simple yet clean, none of that "greasy" feel you get when you first walk into many auto shops. I didn't get to see the waiting area, but from what I could see, more of the same. The guy at the counter that checked me in and took my information was polite and cordial, his appearance neat and clean, and he actually knew how to communicate properly (i.e. made eye contact, full comprehensive sentences). Don't get me wrong, I realize that this is a business where hard-working people get dirty and greasy and grimy, but nothing turns me away faster than some dude/dudette who looks like he/she hadn't showered in a few days, only looks at me with sideway glances, I can't make out whether he/she's actually speaking to me about my car or just mumbling under his/her breath, and he/she left grease marks all over my paperwork. Ew. If I don't feel safe and comfortable in a shop, then I probably won't feel confident and secure leaving my car to them, either. However, that was definitely not the case with here. I was confident they'd be able to HONESTLY fix any issues with my car and let me know about it. Work done: turns out the jiggamabob was actually installed incorrectly so they took it off and put it back on with all the screws intact. And they didn't charge me for that even though they took the time to fix someone else's mistake. The only minor issue I had was that I was under the impression this was going to be pretty quick (originally estimated at 1hr (that was what I was quoted), with the acknowledgement that it could potentially be a little more if they were busy). I dropped off my car at 10am but when I didn't hear back from anyone by 2pm, I finally couldn't hold back the urge to call them. But that's easy to overlook considering the quote was for a one hour diagnostics and they ended up not charging me for anything because it was a simple fix. Overall, kudos to the shop, the shop owner, and his employees for the good work and awesome customer service. Would definitely return and also recommend to others.
